Lasting Powers of Attorney

The importance of planning ahead should never be underestimated. It always pays to be prepared.

By deciding on these matters now, you can avoid costly and complicated dealings with the Court of Protection.

The new system of Lasting Powers of Attorney (LPA) that came into effect in October 2007 enables you to appoint Attorneys to make decisions for you in case you are unable to make decisions for yourself at some point in the future.

There are two types of LPA, one for your Property & Affairs and another for your Personal Welfare.

The Property & Affairs LPA will enable your Attorneys to make any decision that you could make about, for example, managing your money, paying your bills, buying and selling property or even running a business.

The Personal Welfare LPA gives your Attorneys the ability to make decisions about all aspects of your welfare, for example, where you live and with whom, what your wear, what you eat, and how you spend your day.

It goes without saying that these are extremely important matters and you should give very careful consideration to who you appoint to make these decisions for you.
