Asbestos claims, do not be confused by medical jargon
At least 3500 people in Great Britain die each year from mesothelioma and asbestos related lung cancer as a result of past exposure to asbestos. Annual numbers of deaths are predicted to go on rising into the next decade. Many people with valid claims may be going without compensation because of confusion arising from the medical terminology.
Chris Lovewell, a solicitor with expertise in occupational disease claims at Tinsdills solicitors, says:
“The medical terminology can be confusing. Some people think they can only claim compensation if their doctor tells them they are suffering with asbestosis. Asbestos causes the variety of different conditions. Successful claims for compensation can be brought by people suffering with asbestos induced pleural plaques, pleural thickening, asbestosis and/or mesothelioma”.
If you are diagnosed with any of these conditions you must seek legal advice about making a claim. Compensation can be recovered if you can prove that your disease was caused by the negligence of your employer or former employer. The earlier the claim is made the better the chances of success.
